An overnight stay in the Bitterroot Wilderness. This 3 mile hike takes you to a high mountain rockslide-impounded lake. The trail climbs steadily to approximtely 7500 feet before heading down to the lake. The fishing wasn't great but we did catch a couple of small rainbow trout.
Jim Lakes Basin is located in the Mission Mountains Wilderness. This area was officially classified as Wilderness on January 4, 1975 and covers approximately 73,877 acres. The area we visited is full of small lakes that can be reached by primitive trails (unmaintained - a lot of trees across the trail) or by bushwhacking.
This nice little lake is actually located in Idaho. It makes a great day hike or jumping off spot for hikeing furthur into Idaho or to some other lakes in Montana close to the border.
Crescent Lake is located in the southern portion of the Mission Mountion Wilderness. This area is quite popular in spite of the fact that it is the home of many Grizzly Bears. Most people hike into Glacier Lake which is a day use only area, but there are many places furthur into the wilderness where you can camp overnight.
Another trip into the Mission Mountain Wilderness. This time we made a loop and visited some new lakes. The huckleberries were no longer in season but the fish were bigger this time.
This little lake is near St. Regis, Montana. The trail is steep and narrow and leads straight down to the lake; where there are some nice rainbow trout, lots of mosquitoes and some great scenery.
