Cinder's Story

This is Cinder ...
She was the first to join the Rioghail Clan. She came to us when she was four years old. A German Shepherd/Golden Retriever Cross, she is a love sponge and is happiest when she is around her people. Her favorite toy is her tennis ball and she loves to play hide-n-seek. Thanks to Cinder I have discovered AMBOR The American Mixed Breed Obedience Registration. This is a wonderful organization which provides opportunities for mixed breed dogs and their owners to participate in a wide variety of performance events. They welcome the all American dog where other's don't, and give talented dog/handler teams the opportunity to compete and earn titles. I have since learned of other organizations which accept and promote the accomplishments of mixed breed dogs.
When she is not busy being the house princess and bossing the boys around, Cinder loves to go backpacking, hiking, swimming and skijoring. She likes showing off her talents in obedience at fun matches and just loves to play agility games. She refuses to believe she is getting too old to have fun so we make an effort to do a little bit of everything she enjoys. She doesn't seem to notice that the jumps are lower, obstacles easier, and hikes shorter these days...she's too busy having fun.
With a tear in my eye; I had to say goodbye to my precious girl on Feb. 13, 2002. She was 13 1/2 years young at the time and thankfully lived a full, happy and healthy life clear up to her last days.
She was the first to join the clan and the first to teach me the many joys of sharing my life with dogs. It is only fitting that she also be the first to leave the clan and in so doing teach me how to deal with
the sorrow of separation. Cinder will always be in my heart and memory. She taught me the ropes and leaves her legacy for the clan to continue on. She will be patiently waiting at the bridge for my arrival. I am sure she will look after all of the other fur kids that are still waiting for their loved ones. Take care my princess...
Until we meet again...
Farewell dear Friend
I put her collar and leash away.
Her dish is with them too,
As is the ball with which she played
And the sock she liked to chew.
My pal won't need them anymore,
But I can't throw them away.
I need a little part of her
To get me through each day.
I miss her warm and fuzzy feet,
Our game of pat-a-cake.
Perhaps some day my heart will heal,
But now it's one big ache.
Her little head now rests on a pillow
In her grave ‘neath where daises grow.
In springtime there will be daffodils,
In the winter a blanket of snow.
So good-bye, little love, we miss you.
Our memories of you are so dear,
That we almost feel your presence.
In our hearts you will always be here.
